Red, White and Blue Burger

Red White and Blue Burger

Red white and blue burger roasted red peppers, green chilies, blue cheese

My time here in the Pacific Northwest has been flying by… it’s almost been a year and a half since I moved to the greatest place ever! So, in order to not forget another holiday, I’m preparing myself early with this red, white and blue burger. I mean… it’s already 80 degrees today. It is a hot one here in the Portland metropolitan area. Last year for 4th of July I didn’t really know anyone yet, Robert was working and really I just didn’t see it coming, which happens in life.. a lot!

This red, white and blue burger beauty with the booty, er, buns, excuse me, was for Robert and added an extra 200 calories and 37 carbs and I wasn’t willing to give up my good carbs, (fruit) for this bun. You could always do it open faced as well and just keep the bottom bun. Whatever floats your boat. Without the bun, you’re looking at a high protein, low carb meal!

  • Can of diced green chiles, 4 oz

If you don’t absolutely love blue cheese, this burger is still for you because it is not overpowering with the little that I added. I wanted to give it a little bit of the flavor, so everyone could try it. The green chiles were a last minute BONUS! I felt like something was missing and then when I saw the green chiles at the store and I knew that’s what this red, white and blue burger was missing.

Alright, these bad boys are super easy to make, because hey, that’s my goal. In a large bowl, mix your lean ground beef, seasoning packet, blue cheese crumbles and  green chiles. Divide into 4 equal patties.

Heat a pan over medium heat, the burgers take about 5 minutes per side. While these cooked, we sliced our white onions and used a smaller pan to heat up the oil for the onions. Use low to medium heat and watch them, they took just a few minutes per side.

Using one of the outer leaves on a head of iceberg lettuce, we assembled and wrapped our burgers nice and tight!!

If you want it to stay nice and neat, don’t cut it in half like I did. It stayed perfectly in this cute little package! Hard not to make a mess with a lettuce wrapped burger, isn’t it!?
